Congratulations to David W G Witts’ for publishing this memoir-based poetry book, Good night sweet prince.

David W G Witts acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. He pays his respects to their Elders past and present, and extends that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What is this poetry book about?

David W G Witts has crystallised his lived experience into the images that form this poetic journey through the mosaic that is life. Through this poetic chronical we experience what it is to lose almost every vestige of hope, to be courageous, and everything in between. That is, what it is to be human.

These poems guide us through love, grief, despair, ecstasy, tragedy, and – in all its terror and beauty – mundanity, with occasional glimpses of the essence of life that makes everything worthwhile: the underground river of laughter, love and joy combined, that bubbles up when least expected from barren rock, splashes playfully like a child, cleanses and regenerates, and then sinks again beneath the surface of the earth, leaving us a hair’s breadth away from answering the eternal question: “Knowing what we know, how are we to live?”

David wrote these poems, over time, then collaborated with On Time Typing Books and Life Stories editor and publishing consultant Sally-Anne Watson Kane to finalise, produce and self-publish this book. David, who is a photographic artist as well as a poet, created all the artworks on the cover and inside pages. On Time Typing Books and Life Stories’ graphic designer Claire McGregor designed the cover and inside pages, and this hardcover book was printed by MinuteMan Prahran.
