Editors celebrating NAIDOC week

NAIDOC week poster 2023

This week is NAIDOC week – a time to celebrate the achievements – social, political and cultural – of First Nations people around Australia, and to learn more about First Nations history, culture and caring for Country.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the First Nations Elders in Brayakaulung Country (within Gunaikurnai Country) where our main office is situated, and in all other Countries in Australia.

Sally-Anne and family started the week off (yesterday) by attending the first smoking ceremony and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Flag-raising in our area. This was held in Booralla, down the track from Morwell. We thank the organisers and presenters of this ceremony for their friendly welcome.

We hope to attend other events in Brayakaulung Country (Morwell), then on Wednesday we will be heading to Dja Dja Wurrung Country (Bendigo area) where we hope to attend more NAIDOC events later in the week.
